Made from Tempranillo grapes belonging to the vineyards of Elciego. Planted average 40 years ago in very poor calcareous soils with a clay loam texture. The vines are cultivated employing a traditional goblet-pruned conduction system. Winemaking The fermentation and maceration process is carried out over a period of 25 days achieved in stainless steel vats with a daily pumping over routine, which allows an optimal extraction of colour and tannins. The ageing process lasts for 24 months, carried out in 225 litre French oak barrels. The wine matures in the bottle for three years prior to its release on the market.
A classic wine of the Rioja Alavesa region, a ruby red brick coloured half layer. Its aromatic explosion is a symphony of notes due to the aging process (vanilla, roasted coffee, spices), ripe fruit (raisins, caramel) and subtle nuances of leather, dry leaves and tobacco, which are typical of the aging process in the bottle. As the wine begins to open, these flavours become more intense. The palate is perfectly assembled and the long silky creamy flavour is reminiscent of velvet. It has a very pleasant aftertaste. Matches specially well with roasted lamb, cutlets barbequed over vine shoots, fish with sauce recipes, as well as smoked and cured cheese. Provides an interesting combination with chocolate desserts.
